With an annual production of over 450,000 tonnes, Senegal is the largest salt producer in West Africa. Much of this production comes from more than 15,000 small-scale artisanal salt producers. In addition, there are a few private initiatives, such as Salins du Sine Saloum, which owns the country's only saltworks producing purified and refined salt.
